Some of our favorite dinners never make it indoors. When the light goes gold and the bugs haven't found us yet, we pull a few things onto the porch and let the evening stretch. Here's what makes a no-rush summer night out there.

Start with somewhere to sit

A folding acacia wood bistro set turns any corner of the porch into a table for two. Weathered teak, easy to tuck away when the season turns.

Keep the snacks simple

No one needs a spread. A bowl of kettle-cooked chips and a sleeve of caramelized Biscoff cookies covers salty and sweet, and both keep well for whoever wanders by.

A small table for the in-between

A white spindle end table holds the lemonade, the book, the citronella — all the little things a good evening collects.

Let the porch tell time

And an outdoor patio clock with a thermometer settles the only real question of the night: is it still warm enough to stay out a little longer? (It usually is.)

That's the whole evening — a chair, a snack, good light, no hurry. The way summer's meant to go.

Unsalted and unhurried,
The Beach Farm
